I am going thru an amazing book called Plot & Structure, by James Scott Bell, which is just hitting me with tons of things to think about. An author I love suggested I read it when I mentioned I wanted to write Enigma. Tonight, I wrote out 10 options for endings, a task I thought would be impossible. But I got it done quickly and am ridiculously excited that I have some great ideas going. I know that I may change my mind altogether in the end, but the fact that I could come up with 10 ideas totally inspired me.
Inspired by the options with ending, I started to think about my opening, in my first chapter. I now love to say, “What if?” In doing so, tonight I came up with a new beginning to Enigma which I love. I kind of felt like I was on a roll. Then I hit another road block! Point of view, I keep switching. I kind of love in some situations that I can hear exactly what my main character is thinking. It helps connect what is happening, internally with main character, with the reader. But then I think that in some situations I would like the reader to know a little more of what other important characters are thinking. Ugh!
I researched some of my favorite novels to refresh on what Point of View they were written in and I am stumped.
What is your favorite to read? Do you have a favorite? Is your favorite specific to genre? Hmmm…I don’t think I have a favorite. Ahhh man, HELP! Haha
