I have been feeling a bit down lately. As much as I love writing Enigma, I have also loved reading and reviewing books. I have had to let it go to focus on writing this novel. It was like my brain was shutting down with so much to do. Nothing was getting done because I was overwhelmed.
But the last few days I have felt a fresh wave of encouragement and inspiration for several different places. One of course are my friends. Love you all! But also from other creatives and their work. Enigma is really a retelling or a fresh updated story of greek muses. This type of story has always intrigued and excited me. I have come across a few that have given me the push and rush of excitement to really get Enigma done.
The first one is a video blog called the Lizzie Bennet diaries. If you like retellings and Pride & Prejudice they you will love this. It’s a video blog presented by our favorite heroin Elizabeth – Lizzie – Bennet. She talks about her crazy mother, darling father and two sisters, Jane & Lydia. It is such a fresh and updated take on one of my favorite books. But you still get those feelings that you get reading the lovely classic tale. I am a fan! Here is the first episode, but I warn you, it’s addicting!
Second, I have house guests coming and before guests come I always do a deep cleaning. The only way to really enjoy a deep cleaning is to listen to an audiobook. After a few amazing author friends recommended it, I pick up Splintered by A.G. Howard. This is a lovely take on Alice and Wonderland. Not completely a retelling, but more of a continuation. We are following the adventure of her great, great grand-daughter. I ABSOLUTELY love it! I am about 3/4 th’s of the way through and it is so good. A great mix of fantasy, adventure and a rockin romance. LOVE.
Lastly, my hubby was watching Wrath of the Titans (2012). It is the story of Perseus defeating a titan to save his father Zeus. I just love the story of his love for his son helping him defeat Ares. Just such great epic hero story telling getting highlighted by the great actors and amazing digital effects.
All these stories stoke the fire of writing something great, epic & lovely in my retelling of the myth of the muses in an urban fantasy. I can’t wait to share Evangeline with you all & now I am inspired to get busy.
What inspires you to jump back into a project? Another book, a song, a movie?
